About Me
My name is Rustam Alexander, and I am a scholar of Russia and the Soviet Union. My work focuses on subjects often overlooked in Soviet and Russian history, including homosexuality, HIV/AIDS, and mental health. I strive to make my research both academically rigorous and accessible to a wider audience. I believe that a time will come—both in Russia and in other illiberal post-Soviet societies—when confronting these histories will be essential for building more democratic, self-aware, and inclusive societies.
